Mobile Phone Insurance - Cell Phone Insurance

Mobile Phone Insurance:

Mobile phone insurance is a handy insurance scheme that can protect you against mobile phone theft. Nearly 15,000 mobile phones are estimated to be lost and stolen every month. Nearly half of all car crimes are mobile phone thefts. One aspect about cell phone insurance is that people believe that their contract becomes null once their cellular phones are stolen. The coverage on the mobile phone insurance continues for its full duration and takes care of the line rental. Cell phone insurance coverage covers electrical and mechanical breakdowns. It also extends to theft from unlocked vehicles and consequential loss. Consumers must look at the various security features that have been built in by the manufacturers. A PIN (Personal Identification Number) lock will allow you to disable your phone and prevent unauthorized use once it is stolen.

Mobile phone insurance coverage covers loss, damage or theft of a mobile phone and is usually sold with the mobile phone itself. Mobile phone insurance coverage includes compensation for the replacement of the instrument with a new instrument of the same specifications including tax and duties. Currently about 700,000 mobile phones are being reported as lost every year. A mobile phone user can lose hundreds of dollars when a cell phone is lost since a number of international calls and billing of huge amounts can be made from the mobile phone before it is reported as lost. The lost cell phones are used in shops that offer 'cheap' international calls. The bill of the mobile phone owner can race to about $1500 within a few hours of being misplaced.
A huge number of cell phone insurance claims are being filed every year but most of them are found to be fraudulent. Ironically more mobile phones are reported as lost than sold by the mobile manufacturers. People make a dishonest cell phone insurance claim so that they can purchase a new mobile phone model and make money on their existing instrument. Based on this fact, cell phone insurance companies have a list of claim payment exclusions:

  • Report of disappearances that appear mysterious.
  • Theft of the mobile phone from an unattended vehicle.
  • Theft, loss or damage when the phone was lent to a third party.
  • Mechanical and electronic disruptions.
  • Experimentation under any abnormal conditions.
  • Damage due to wear and tear, vermin, atmospheric or climatic condition or gradual deterioration, inherent defect or from any process of cleaning, repairing or maintenance.
  • Loss or damage due to war or nuclear perils or from any water borne craft.
  • Loss because of willful act by the owner of the mobile phone.
Premium for phone insurance coverage costs only about $4 per month. If the house is covered by an all-risks home contents insurance policy, a cell phone insurance would not be necessary as the phone will also be covered by the home contents policy.
